LRT-2 lacks trains, eyes buses for commuters.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) are seeking funding to buy additional trainsets for LRT Line 2 to ease long queues at stations as passenger numbers continue to rise.

Only eight trainsets are in operation, as one is undergoing a train operating control panel upgrade and another is still being repaired.

While waiting for funds to buy new trains, Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez directed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the LRTA to study special permits for public utility buses (PUBs) to give commuters an alternative way to travel.
